If the right usurped from us is given back to us we shall take it, otherwise we shall go on claiming it… Nahj ul Balagha

Trey Curren, you should meet the sheikh in person. You obviously are too much of a hero on the internet behind a computer screen defending your thoughts.
Why dont you attend one of the sheikhs lectures and find out for yourself that he is nothing but an inspiring leader, and has nothing to do with jihad terrorism..

Send him away…
June 2nd, 2010 at 9:11 pm
Hi Caroline it is easy to say send him away but do you have even a single reason to convince even your own self why? This man is in Australia since 15 years without any criminal record , not even a single lecture which provokes people against humanity or australia. Even ASIO have got only a claim but no prove. Well if the ASIO states tomorrow you are a threat to Country shall all people belive it blindly because it is in newspapers , because an agency claims it , as a human do we have a right to atleast ask once how? Why ? come on mate. Will you be ready to leave Australia. Rather than accepting what ever is in the press do a little bit of your self analysis as well see the person meet him find his view judge his opinion think about it.

It seems, Abbas, that Dr Leghaei’s plight will invite the same bigoted responses from the ignorant and foolhardy. I have never personally met Dr Leghaei but I have no reason not to trust his integrity and honesty. ASIO, on the other hand, I have nothing but contempt for.

Trey seems misguided too. Islam is not fundamentally flawed in the way he would have us believe. All religions – as do any subset of people – have their good and points. There are always individuals in any group who act contrary to the interests of the rest. Christianity and Hinduism have had chequered histories but I don’t hear Trey carpeting them. It is fashionable to ‘bag’ Islam. I am an atheist but I respect Islam and its followers, and I don’t prejudge anyone. To do so IS to be truly radical!

I love how God uses athiests to bring wisdom to us religious folk. 😉

To All those Racists comments before commenting on anyone the smartest thing to do would be to meet the person and then judge him The Shekih has not harmed anyone but actually has worked in this country like any True Australian and more if the Shekih has been here for 15 yrs and we still consider a non Australian we shouldn’t bother on given citizen ships to any of the hard workers bcoz there destineys will be the same As the Shekihs and probably worse.

Trey
I agree with you in the sense that people supporting violent or \’radical\’ actions might be best located elsewhere (along with radical Christians, radical Hindus, radical barbers, radical television presenters – how do you define radical and where do you stop?)but the essential point here is the fact that Dr Leghaei practices no radical anything and most of us – including many senior politicians – recognise that. Yes, \’if this man is innocent he deserves a fair trial\’ but here we have a man adjudged to be guilty of something without him – or anyone else for that matter – being able to determine what it is exactly that he is supposed to have done. There cannot be a trial because a trial is necessarily bi-polar, being made up of submissions for ones innocence and submissions for ones guilt. In this case all we have is a decision from ASIO and everything rests on that. Dr Leghaei has been hung, drawn and quartered simply on a decision; without the right of reply.
With regard to your comments that suggest that Muslims are always the antagonist; Christians (and I use them out of convenience) have historically acted in their own interests, using missionaries to infiltrate countries and impose their belief systems on \’savage\’ races. And a lot of antagonism within the Australian community comes from Christian people who cannot tolerate Islam. It is a complex situation which can only move closer to resolution when we deny barriers and respect one another for our similarities …and differences.
As Spike Milligan many times said: Love, Light and Peace.

To Caroline
You guys are obviously so arrogant that you dont bother to read about islam, and think (using your brain) and comon sense, instead , your are judging by your ears, of what you have been toldby the media, which is corrupted . I honnestly feel sorry for yous that you are going to find out that you have been mislead and pulled like a goat , only when it is too late, i mean not in this life but in the after-life, seroiusly wake up to your selves. It is about time that you guys have to learn how to start using your best gift from god which is your (brains). beacuse that is the only thing that differentiates Humans from Animals…..
good luck.

The sheikh should not be deported unless he has had a fair trial, where the ‘evidence’ against him has been properly examined and judged in an unbiased manner. Having the security forces claim there is evidence of an unfriendly matter, but not giving any details, makes you think of other hashed up messes where ‘security’ is used as an excuse to behave in an undemocratic manner. We are supposed to be better than that. Our priests of all denominations are able to speak openly without vilification, but I have unfortunately noticed that this has not been extended to Muslim clerics. Until his guilt has been proven, let him stay and welcome him. After all, wasn’t there something about ‘being without sin, casting the first stone’?

Funny how everyone is so keen to get on the American bandwagon and demonise Iran! Not sure what Iran has done to anybody – but then, these days, as Dr Leghaei is unfortunately finding out – you don’t really need an excuse for any intolerable action.
In essence, the matter of Dr Leghaei is nothing to do with Iran or Islam. It is everything to do with the Australian Government and ASIO and their political agenda. Even Rudd, in commenting about the recent assault on a ship by Israel sought to bring Iran into the debate – in a derogatory way. Obama is heading down under – we better show that we’re behind them in fighting evil Iran. This really is a sorry state of affairs – and the family of Dr Leghaei will now feel the full weight of that.
Shame Australia!

Mansour is an Imam neighbour of mine and President of our Marrickville Inter-Faith Round Table. He will be deported in 3 weeks unless our Federal Government backs down. He has been given a negative assessment by ASIO after 16 years of peaceful work in the community. He is the only fluent English speaking Imam in Sydney
